ITIL V3 Best Practices for IT Service Management
Thursday, July 24, 2008
ITIL V3 is a set of best practices for IT Service Management that embeds solid IT management processes into a service lifecycle concept to enable effective governance, efficient execution of IT processes and cost-effective management of services. It was developed in the late 1980s and has been revised twice (late 90s and in 2007) to bring it in line with established IT governance frameworks and standards including ISO20000 and COBIT.

This presentation discusses the key concepts of the design, transition and operation of IT Services and stresses the importance of service strategy and continual service improvement for aligning IT with the business during the lifecycle of each service provided by IT. A brief discussion of IT frameworks that can complement ITIL and facilitate governance, risk management and compliance is also included in the presentation.

Sponsored by the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) as part of the Technology Today Series (TTS).

Business Continuity Planning with ITIL
Thursday, July 24, 2008
The dependencies between business processes and technology are now so inter-twined that Business Continuity Management incorporates both a business element (Business Continuity Planning) and a technology element (IT Service Continuity Management Planning). Their dependencies on each other determine that one is a sub-set of the other, depending on the nature of the business and the extent to which technology has pervaded the organization. This presentation provides an overview of the relationship between the two elements and presents a set of ITIL-based best practices that can help organizations to enhance their ability to continue to provide a pre-determined and agreed level of IT Services to support the minimum business requirements following an interruption to the business.
